The Israeli military captured a 100-Kilogram drugs shipment from the border of Egypt. Cops capture bags of drugs after guards spot smugglers on the opposite side of the fence.
According to the Israeli military, they encounter a large drug shipment on the border of Israel with Egypt on Friday-Saturday nighttime.
As per the Israel Defense Forces, “They identified several suspects who were trying to smuggle the drugs from the territory of Egypt into Israel.”
Furthermore, they said, “tried to stop the smugglers and captured around 100 kilograms (220 pounds) of drugs that transferred to the police.”
Photos shared by army officers in which it is visible that these are the bags of canvas, fully stitched and shut, lying on the desert ground.
However, they did not mention what kind of drugs they seized.
They also said that the Israeli-Egyptian border had been used for years as a smuggling corridor, specifically for marijuana, but for other drugs.
Egypt’s Sinai army shares a long border with southern Israel.
The northern part of the Sinai is the restless border with the scene of extreme fighting between Egyptian forces and terror groups, with the Islamic State insurgency, in the latest years.
In the semi-lawless, arid region, criminal groups smuggle drugs by throwing them over the fence to Israeli counterparts.
Negev region, which is the part of southern Israel’s, are glimpsed as lawless, and deprivation in the community of Bedouin there is tied to local crime. The Bedouin groups also live on the side of the Egyptian border.
In December 2021, the IDF attempted to smuggle 120 kilograms of drugs across the border, and it estimated that the worth of that drugs was NIS 2 million ($650,000).
In November 2021, the Israeli army troops shot a suspected smuggler and slightly injured him.
The IDF recently updated their laws in which they said to allow for army people to shoot any suspected thieves and smugglers and open to fire them with the gun.
However, Isreal and Egypt cooperate on security matters in the Sinai and the borders.
