NUR-SULTAN – Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Foreign Affairs Mukhtar Tileuberdi paid their first official visit to Kuwait in order to promote their bilateral relations among the two countries, as per the reports.
During his visit, he also held a discussion with the Kuwait Foreign Minister ‘Sheikh Ahmad Nasser Al-Sabah, where both sides discussed the country’s current state and further prospects of bilateral cooperation, as well as highlighted the positive dynamics of the relationship, while also stating the importance of deepening trade, economic, and investment partnership.
In 2023, both countries will mark 30 years since their establishment of diplomatic ties in January 1993.
Both sides highlighted the Kazakhstan-Kuwait Intergovernmental Commission’s vital role in a bid to provide further development of the partnership. Starting this year, the foreign ministers will be co-chairing this commission.
During his all Kuwait visit, Tileuberdi assembled with the Prime Minister of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Sabah and passed the invitation of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to take part in the VI Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) scheduled for October in Nur-Sultan.
Moreover, the duo discussed about his country’s opportunities and their Astana International Financial Center during their negotiations with Minister of Finance Abdul Wahab Al-Rasheed’.
Kuwaiti investments also aided in bringing some of the world’s most recognisable brands to Kazakhstan. Larger companies of Kuwait, such as Americana and Alshaya, have successfully operated in Kazakhstan.
Seven years back in 2015, Alshaya investment holding opened Starbucks coffee shops in Nur-Sultan and Almaty, with the investments of the company exceeding $15 million.
However, the company is planning to expand their presence in Kazakhstan, Executive Chair of Alshaya Group Mohammed Alshaya told Tileuberdi during their meeting. The company is considering expanding its network of Starbucks coffee shops and Mothercare children’s clothing stores, as well as attracting new international brands such as Victoria’s Secret, American Eagle, and Claire’s to Kazakhstan.
In December, the launch of direct flights by Kuwaiti Jazeera Airways is one of the most recent developments that the parties hope will strengthen their cooperation, including people-to-people contacts and tourism.
