Dubai: As Monkeypox cases are increasing daily in the Middle East, the Health Authorities of Dubai issued isolation guidelines for the confirmed monkeypox cases.
Taking to Twitter, the health authority shared a guide on the zoonotic viral disease that details all the zoonotic viral diseases that describes all the relevant procedures.
So far, the UAE has reported 13 cases of monkeypox.
According to the DHA guide, an individual is classified as a ‘confirmed case’ if they have clinical symptoms and a laboratory test confirms the virus.
The authorised test is to detect monkeypox is a PCR throat swab. Alternatively, health officials can rub the skin for vesicle fluid using a dry swab.
Patients with monkeypox symptoms must be isolated in a separate room until they are informed of the positive PCR test result.
Here is the list of what an infected individual must do:
>> The DHA will reach the patient to finish the isolation procedures.
>> If the symptoms heighten, the patient must go to the nearest medical centre or hospital.
>> The patient must remain isolated at home or in the institutional isolation facility for 21 days.
The meaning of isolation:
According to the authorities of DHA, it is to isolate people with the monkeypox disease to confirm it does not extend while ensuring they have access to the necessary health care.
Criteria of Home isolation:
>> Patient must be in a steady condition with services such as a well-ventilated room at home. The patient will receive a medical follow-up.
>> Patient must be a healthy grown-up with or without mild inflammation and stable vital signs and be able to isolate at home.
Provisions and conditions of home isolation
The individual should be in a stable health condition and have:
>> A separate well-equipped-ventilated room and washroom.
>> A first-aid kit and body thermometer.
>> Knowledge of how to properly treat infected equipment and waste.
>>Basic Knowledge about hand washing and hygiene criteria to avoid virus transmission.
