Monaco sign Swiss striker Embolo from Monchengladbach

French club Monaco have signed Swiss international striker Brielle Embolo from Borussia Moenchengladbach.

French club Monaco have signed Swiss international striker Breel Embolo from Borussia Moenchengladbach.

The 25-year-old Cameroon-born striker started his professional career in Basel, then moved to Germany’s Schalke 04 for three seasons, then joined another Bundesliga club, Mönchengladbach, in 2019.

He played 56 international matches for Switzerland and scored nine goals, while he scored nine goals in 29 matches with Gladbach last season in the German League.

“His biography complements our already strong attacking options and adds more depth to the team,” said Monaco sporting director Paul Mitchell.

“His presence in the national team and his participation in the World Cup and European Championships will give him the opportunity to perform at high levels in major events, and this will be very valuable for us.”

And press reports revealed that the French club paid 12.5 million euros to include Embolo from the German club.

Embolo is the second offensive deal for Monaco this summer, after 27-year-old Japanese international Takumi Minamino, who joined from Liverpool last June.
