Saint Lucia: Alfred Prospere, the Agriculture Minister of Saint Lucia, has revealed his planning to boost agricultural exports. Minister Alfred Prospere is intended to follow the agricultural export initiative similar to the one that was successfully initiated in neighboring island nation of Saint Vincent and Grenadines from local businessman Rayneau Gajadhar.
During the session of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Minister Prospere mentioned about the potential of the initiative as per his vision. Minister also mentioned while warning that Saint Lucia may not be equipped enough to implement the project and model of Saint Vincent at this time.
As per the reports, under this initiative, Rayneau Industries Limited, led by Gajadhar in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, buys agricultural product directly from farmers while ensuring immediate payment and then export markets for the produce.
While taking care of the concerns about the project and its implementation to the nation of Saint Lucia, Minister Alfred Prospere referred to the existing infrastructure of the Marketing Board of Saint Lucia, which already functions as a platform for registration of farmers.
Minister Alfred Prospere further mentioned in his statement that some farmers have signed supply contracts with entities such as hotels and Massy Stores Supermarket.
Even after the potential benefits of approving the model of the project dolled by Rayneau, Minister Prospere highlighted the necessities to consider the unique dynamics of agricultural landscape of the nation.
