Saint Lucia: The 45th anniversary of the independence of Saint Lucia was celebrated on Thursday, 22 February which was also celebrated by the Taiwan diplomats in the presence of Joseph Wu, the Foreign Minister of Taiwan, and Ambassador Robert Kennedy Lewis. The event was organised to highlight the long-standing diplomatic relations between both nations.
Foreign Minister Joseph Wu expressed his gratitude to the citizens of Saint Lucia and congratulated them and the government on the day of independence on behalf of his nation, Taiwan. Minister Joseph in his statement mentioned about the strong relations and diplomatic cooperation between both nations since 2007.
Minister Joseph highlighted the collaborative efforts of both the island nations in the betterment of important sectors including agriculture, public health, education, and empowerment of women and their participation.
In his statement, Minister Joseph also talked about the joint scholarship programs initiated by both nations with the intention of developing talent by providing opportunities. The programs are aimed at the young generation who have the potential to contribute to the growth of the nation.
He also added his appreciation for the support of Saint Lucia to Taiwan in different aspects of geopolitics and cooperation in several fields. Joseph mentioned about the importance of solidarity in international relations.
