St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew and Minister of Education Dr. Geoffrey Hanley fulfilled their promise that was made to the people of the federation to reconstruct the Basseterre High School.
The first quarter of reconstruction work of the Basseterre High School will begin in 2025 to enhance the educational infrastructure in St. Kitts and Nevis. It will also provide students with state-of-the-art learning facilities.
PM Drew and Deputy Prime Minister who is also serving as Minister of Education Dr. Geoffrey Hanley made the official announcement while they visited the site of Basseterre High School (BHS) at Victoria Road.
Dr. Drew has also been a strong advocate for improving the education sector of the twin island nation, he expressed confidence in the progress of the project and highlighted that the project is their priority now.
Prime Minister Drew shared that he wants to extend his special gratitude to the local architects who have been part of the initial discussion and while sharing the ideas. These efforts helped them to develop a design that they have already presented to the country, and they are on their way to start construction in early 2025.
Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew emphasized that the project is not just about rebuilding a school but about delivering a long-kept promise made to the citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis. He added that they made a promise and they are true to deliver on this promise. The new Basseterre High School will stand as a testament to the commitment to provide young people with the best education in the best environment.
Considerably, the new Basseterre High School will feature 32 modern classrooms that will be equipped to meet the needs of the 21st century learner. The classrooms of the school will have dedicated spaces for arts and sciences.
It will also include two music rooms, four science laboratories and six computer labs. An auditorium will also be designed with a seating capacity of 1200 people that will provide a space for school events and larger community gatherings. It will also include a well-equipped lecture room that will be available for specialized lessons and seminars.
The design of the school will also include upgraded sporting facilities to meet international standards, which ensures that the students have access to high-quality physical education resources. The new school building will be completely accessible with ramps and other features which also ensures that students with disabilities can navigate the campus safely.
This project supports the broader vision of the government towards the education sector, which aligns with the goal of creating modern, safe and inclusive learning environments that can support the educational growth of the youth of the country.
