St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew extended his Christmas wishes to the citizens of the twin island nation on the festive occasion, through his annual Christmas address.
While sharing the video message on his social media account, he greeted everyone and expressed that he cordially invites all to view his Christmas Day Address. He extended his wishes and blessings and quoted that May the light of this season fill everyone’s homes with joy, love and peace. May it strengthen the bonds that unite all as one and guide them into a year of hope and possibilities ahead.
In his Christmas address, PM Drew also highlighted the major initiatives taken by the federation of St. Kitts and Nevis this year, in 2024 and emphasized upon the changes that were brought in action for the good of the nation.
The most important initiative among them all was easing the financial burdens on the citizens of St. Kitts and Nevis. The notable points from the easing financial burden initiative were:
- The government introduced ‘Independence 40 Resets’. This was a major step to bring relief for housing, water and electricity arrears.
- Another major step taken was ‘Two CBI Dividends Paid’. It happened for the first time ever in the history of the CBI Programme.
- Next major highlight was 8% Salary Increase, specifically for Civil Servants and Pensioners.
- Bonus to the workers was granted and multiple bonuses were paid to employees.
- The St. Kitts and Nevis Federation also introduced a new GAE Pensions which is happening for the first-time and is a pension scheme brought for Government Auxiliary Employees.
- The Labour Party also increased 39% Minimum Wage by raising the national minimum wage for workers.
- The ruling party also increased 37% Pension Payment and enhanced support for retirees.
- The government has also increased 16% Minimum Age of Pension and higher payments for eligible pensioners.
- Utility Subsidies were also introduced which is a relief on fuel variation charge (FVC), liquified petroleum gas (LPG) and fuel excise tax.
Moreover, such great initiatives were introduced to fulfil the commitment made by the government to reduce the cost of living and ensure that more goes into the pocket of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis Dr. Terrance Drew along with his wife Diani Jimesha Prince-Drew visited and spent a part of the Christmas Day by serving the residents of the Cardin Home.
PM Drew along with his wife also made rounds, delivered gifts and Christmas greetings to patients at the JNF General Hospital. He wished all the patients a speedy recovery and good health.
He also followed his long-practiced ritual and began his Christmas day by visiting Wesleyan Holiness Church in Conaree. There he was joined by his mother-in-law. Together they extended their services, centered around prayer and goodwill for the nation.
Furthermore, on behalf of the whole federation, he thanked the Wesleyan Holiness Church and the people living in Conaree, for their prayers for everyone and the St. Kitts and Nevis.
