St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew visited the women of his constituency on the occasion of International Women’s Day and acknowledged their contributions towards the nation and its development.
PM Drew shared the glimpses from his significant visit and said that he took the opportunity to visit several women from his constituency on International Women’s Day and showed appreciation for their contributions to nation-building.
International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on March 08, to commemorate women’s fight for equality and liberation along with the women’s rights movements. The day gives focus to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, violence and abuse against women.
Supported by the universal female suffrage movement, Women’s Day originated from labour movements in Europe and North America during the early 20th century.
This year, on March 08, 2025, International Women’s Day was celebrated under the theme, ‘For All Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.’
Furthermore, the theme calls for action that can unlock the equal rights, power and opportunities for all and a feminist future where no one is left behind. Central to the vision of empowering the next generation-youth, especially the young women and adolescent girls, as catalysts for the change that will last.
St. Kitts and Nevis marks the occasion and celebrate its women’s efforts that they contributed to the growth of the nation. Women are an integral part of this twin-island and has always played their part in supporting the great projects and ideas of the federation.
Recently, the St. Kitts and Nevis commemorated the International Women’s Day on Saturday, March 08, 2025. The twin-island celebrated the achievements of pioneering women on International Women’s Day at The Sugar Apple.
The event highlighted the inspiring speeches by the Minister of State – Isalean Phillip, Julie Charles and keynote speaker – Kaeve ‘Mini’ Armstrong. The awards presented were the Empowerment Award and the Prime Minister’s Award.
It observed distinguished guests including the Governor general – Dame Marcella Liburd and Prime Minister – Dr. Terrance Drew.
