Tech platforms, “Goggle” and Meta platforms, “Facebook” faces tighter ad restrictions on how they present advertisements to users, after the European legislators voted to toughen their upcoming legislation.
The European government took this decision in a bid to limit platforms from using sensitive data of the users– race or religion, for targeting objectives and need them to make it resilient for users to opt out of tracking while using their products.
The result of the vote announced on January 20, amends steps set up last month by a committee of European lawmakers even more stricter.
The agreement contained the ban on targetting ads to minors and using so-called dark patterns, where platforms push towards being tracked online. It also allows people to seek compensation if the platform does not stop promoting harmful content to people.
However, Lawmakers voted against conditions to completely ban targeted ads.
However, the company’s representatives did not give immediate responses to requests for comment.
Moreover, lawmakers also imposed hefty fines to those companies who violate the rules will have to pay fines of as much as 6% of their global sales.
RULES:-
