Qatar’s ruling Emir to visit Washington on January 31 as per the sources, a trip possible to address Afghanistan to see the gas supplies to Europe and Iran.
Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani’s visit, the first since President Joe Biden took office a year ago, begins with Washington discussing a possible pursuit of supplies to Europe if Russia invades Ukraine with energy-producing states and industries.
According to the sources, Antony Blinken, the US Secretary of the state, discussed the matter of gas in a phone call on Monday, January 23, with the Foreign Minister of Qatar, a top liquefied natural gas producer.
Washington is worried that a possible Russian military attack on Ukraine could trigger US and European boycotts on Moscow, which will then stop the delivery of Russian gas to Europe. However, Russia neglected its plans to attack Ukraine.
Moreover, Transitional gas supplies are already tight, and Qatar Energy freight is locked into long-term supply agreements that the company cannot easily break.
The visit aim of Sheikh Tamim’s is to build relations with ally Washington, which have boosted since Doha hosted talks that led to the 2020deal for the US armies to pull out Afghanistan and played a vital role in evacuation efforts during the withdrawal of the US.
Moreover, Qatar and Turkey are negotiating with the government of the Taliban in order to manage operations at Kabul’s international airport, the land-locked country primary international air link.
It is also expected that Sheikh Tamim and Biden would also discuss the various effort to recover from the global power that happened in 2015 during the nuclear pact with Iran, with which Doha has ties. The efforts to end the war of Yemen said sources.
The visit of Emir also comes amid a wind row between Qatar Airways and Europe’s Airbus, a competitor of US plane maker Boeing.
Airbus withdrew a Qatar Airways order for jetliners after the Qatari Airline sued the planemaker for more than 600 million dollars over the paint and surface imperfections. The Airline forced it to ground 21 A350 jets.
