On Tuesday, January 25, 2022, the Israeli government was asked to administer the fourth dose of vaccine against the COVID-19 virus to people over the age of 18. An expert panel advised the government after the research has been conducted, which shows that vaccination is the only solution to fight against the infection and severe illness caused by SARS-CoV-19.
The advisory committee of the panel cited that the research proves the effectiveness of the fourth dose against severe disease. As per the research, the fourth jab of the vaccine against the novel coronavirus would deliver three to five times the level of protection against deadly infection and illness. Moreover, the fourth dose of the vaccine also has the potential to double the safety level against the disease compared to the three doses of vaccine.
The advisory committee further asserted that the health ministry of Isreal should have approved the particular recommendation against the deadly virus.
As per the status of the vaccine against the COVID-19 in Isreal, the entire population of the country who are over the age of 60 are receiving the second booster shots of the vaccine. Moreover, they are also administering the vaccine to those who are at high risk as the country has faced a surge of COVID related infection and struggled to combat the illness.
It was also suggested that the highly contagious Omicron variant had fueled the wave of disease caused by the novel coronavirus.
Meanwhile, the country has also started offering the third jab of the COVID-19 vaccine to the general public last summer.
The Health Ministry shows that in total, 580,000 active cases due to novel coronavirus have been reported in Isreal, while 845 patients are in critical condition.
As per the data, nearly half of the country’s population has been immunised with the third dose, while more than 600,00 have received the fourth shot of the vaccine.
Since the pandemic has emerged in the country, a total of 8,487 people have succumbed to the novel coronavirus. Moreover, Isreal is known as one of the leading countries to ramp up their vaccination drive since the health authorities approved the vaccines in 2020.
