KUWAIT CITY, March 3: People suffered a lot, especially due to COVID-19, and in Kuwait, primarily Restaurants and Cafes suffered a lot and suffered consequences of the coronavirus pandemic despite a gap of two years, said by the President of Kuwait Federation of Restaurants, Catering and Cafes ‘Fahd AL-Arbash’.
He further stated that the sector of a restaurant in Kuwait might suffer for five years unless the state moves in to help the local economy and open up tourism and employment.
Al Arbash stated that despite returning to normal in the country, the restaurant sector has not returned as before the pandemic.
There have been additional customers coming into the restaurants mainly due to national holidays as a large number of citizens have travelled out of Kuwait due to long holidays.
Many restaurants started the service of home deliveries in Kuwait, and they have to depend on home deliveries due to fewer customers, and people prefer to eat at their home only, and a number of people and citizens are preferred to spend holidays on farms, chalets and hotels or travelled abroad.
The restaurants and cafes are the both who earn profit from customers and generally get benefitted from citizens and located in the major commercial complexes, but these restaurants are merely 20% of total restaurants operating in Kuwait, as per sources. The rest of the 80% of restaurants are facing a decline in earnings.
After the COVID-19 hit the country, the prices of foodstuff also increased, and that is why they affect the prices due to, which affect the profits of restaurants and cafes as they are committed to the price list on the menu.
This produces a question that will restaurants and cafes in Kuwait continue to withstand high food prices without the backing of the state for young people who run these restaurants.
