Jerusalem: According to the health ministry of Israel, they found two cases of the new COVID-19 variant on Wednesday. In response, officials stated that they are not too worried about the cases.
The strain, merging two sub-variants of the Omicron version of the Covid-19 virus — dubbed BA.1 and BA.2 — was recorded during PCR tests on two passengers arriving at Israel’s Ben Gurion airport.
According to the health ministry statement, this variant is still unknown around the globe.
“The two cases of combined strain and that was reported on the airport, have discovered so far, suffered from very mild symptoms of fever, headaches and muscles dystrophy, and they even do not require special medical treatment, it added.”
According to the statement of Israel’s pandemic response chief, ‘Salman Zarka’, “played down the risks.”
Furthermore, Zarka stated that the phenomenon of this merging variants is well known, and at this stage, we are not so worried about it leading to severe cases.
Till now, there are more than four million people out of 9.2 million population are those who received three coronavirus vaccine shots.
Almost 1.4 million cases of Ovid infection, including 8,244 deaths, have been officially recorded in the country.
In February, Israel announced that they stated that unvaccinated tourists would be allowed to enter as part of easing COVID-19 restrictions.
Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said that the country was seeing a “constant decline in morbidity data.”
The country’s last efforts to reopen their borders last November foundered after just a few weeks because the new variant Omicron spread fastly.
Israel was the first country ever to launch a nationwide vaccination campaign in December 2020.
Even last month, the government declared it would provide fourth Covid vaccine shots to people who are more than 60 and health workers, amid a surge driven by the Omicron variant.
