Spain eased Covid entry restrictions for unvaccinated travellers from outside the European Union on Saturday in order to boost the crucial tourism sector ahead of the summer vacation season.

Until now, visitors from outside the bloc – including Spain’s main tourism market, Britain – could only enter with proof of vaccination or recovery from Covid-19.

However, as of Saturday, travellers from outside the EU will be permitted to enter Spain with a negative Covid test result, according to a statement from the transport ministry.

PCR tests must be undertaken 72 hours before travel to Spain, or an antigen test must be done 24 hours before departure.

Meanwhile, Bill Gates, the billionaire philanthropist, hailed Abu Dhabi’s Hope Consortium for establishing a world-class Covid-19 immunisation centre in the capital.

Gates, a vaccine advocate, paid a visit to Abu Dhabi Ports’ state-of-the-art cold and ultra-cold storage facility that can hold all temperature brands of Coronavirus vaccines.

“It is very modern. It got a lot of great refrigeration capacity; things are followed very well,” he said at the KIZAD facility in a remote area of Al Samha.

The Consortium and its partners have been able to deliver millions of vaccines from the point of manufacture to the point of immunisation due to a robust end-to-end vaccine supply chain.

Covid-19 can spread through an infected person’s mouth or nose in the form of tiny liquid droplets when they sneeze, cough, speak, sing or breathe.

As people got a little relief from Covid-19, the Middle East reported its first case of monkeypox, which is spreading rapidly and leaving people to worry.
