Their journey to the top was marked by sheer dominance, as they swept aside all opposition, culminating in a thrilling 2-1 victory over Mozambique’s Vanessa Muianga and Ana Paula Sinaporta in the final.

Notably, this final clash was the only set dropped by the Egyptians throughout the entire competition, underscoring their formidable presence on the court.

For Mozambique, the silver medal represented a significant achievement, marking an improvement from their bronze finish in 2019. Their progress owes much to the support provided by the FIVB, with an investment of 12 months of coach support worth CHF 72,000, led by Brazilian coach Alexandre Pontel.

Meanwhile, in the men’s category, Morocco’s Mohamed Abicha and Soufiane El-Gharrouti captured the hearts of spectators with their flawless performance, clinching the gold medal.

Their journey to glory was characterized by a perfect run, as they steamrolled through the competition without dropping a single set.

In a fiercely contested final, they overcame the challenge posed by South Africa’s Leo Williams and Danilo Von Ludwiger, emerging victorious with a commanding 2-0 win.

South Africa’s silver medal marked a remarkable improvement from their fourth-place finish in 2019, a testament to their dedication and hard work. The FIVB’s investment of CHF 54,000 into six months of coach support in South Africa, led by Australian coach Adam Maskell, has undoubtedly played a pivotal role in their resurgence.

Not to be overshadowed, Botswana’s George Chiswaniso and Jack Sekao showcased their mettle, securing the bronze medal after a spirited performance against Sierra Leone’s Aruna Ahmed and Kamara Musa in the third-place play-off.

The African Games Accra 2023 beach volleyball tournament witnessed the participation of 17 women’s teams and 19 men’s teams, epitomizing the spirit of camaraderie and competition that defines this quadrennial event.

From thrilling rallies to heart-stopping moments of triumph, the tournament captivated audiences and showcased the immense talent and dedication of the participating athletes.

As the sun sets on Accra, Ghana, Egypt and Morocco stand tall as the champions of beach volleyball, their triumphs etched into the annals of sporting history.

With their sights set on future endeavors, these athletes serve as inspirations, embodying the values of excellence, perseverance, and sportsmanship on the sands of Africa and beyond.
