Cairo, Egypt – Chinese wind turbine manufacturer Envision Energy has been selected to supply turbines for the 1.1-gigawatt (GW) Suez Wind Energy project, a major renewable energy initiative in Egypt.
The project, developed by Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power (TADAWUL:2082) in partnership with HAU Energy, is set to be one of the largest wind farms in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
Envision Energy will provide 138 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 8 megawatts (MW), specifically designed to operate in high wind speeds and sandy environments.
In addition to supplying the turbines, the Chinese firm will offer maintenance services for the project for 25 years, ensuring long-term operational efficiency and performance.
The company will also deploy its proprietary Galileo system, which enables real-time wind data analysis to optimize energy generation.
The Suez Wind Energy project, with a total investment of USD 1.2 billion (EUR 1.16 billion), reached financial close earlier this year.
Once completed, the wind farm will significantly contribute to Egypt’s renewable energy capacity and support the country’s efforts to transition toward a more sustainable energy mix.
Kane Xu, senior vice president and president of international product lines at Envision Energy, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration.
“We are thrilled to be part of this transformative project in Egypt. By leveraging our cutting-edge turbine technology and industry-leading supply chain integration, this project will set a new standard for large-scale wind energy in the MENA region,” Xu stated.
The Suez Wind Energy project aligns with Egypt’s ambitious plans to increase its reliance on renewable energy sources. The country aims to generate 42% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2035.
The new wind farm is expected to play a crucial role in meeting this target by providing clean and sustainable energy to the national grid.
ACWA Power, a leading player in the renewable energy sector, has been actively involved in several large-scale clean energy projects across the region.
The Suez wind farm further strengthens its portfolio and underscores its commitment to fostering sustainable development through innovative energy solutions.
The selection of Envision Energy for this project also highlights China’s growing influence in the global renewable energy sector.
Chinese companies have been increasingly investing in and supplying technology for major international clean energy initiatives, reinforcing their position as leaders in the global green energy transition.
Once operational, the Suez wind farm will not only contribute to Egypt’s clean energy goals but also create jobs and support local economic growth.
The project is expected to enhance Egypt’s energy security by reducing dependence on fossil fuels and lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
With construction expected to progress rapidly, the Suez Wind Energy project marks a significant step forward for Egypt’s renewable energy ambitions.
As the country continues to expand its wind and solar energy capabilities, partnerships with global technology leaders like Envision Energy will be instrumental in shaping its sustainable energy future.
