Israel has become the first ever country to allow drones in civilian airspace. As, Israel’s Ministry of Transport and Road Safety recently declared the country’s first certification for unnamed aircraft vehicles (UAVs) to operate in civilian airspace.

As per the reports, the certification was issued to the Hernes Straliner unnamed system by the Israeli Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and was fabricated and developed by Elbit Systems and an Israeli defence electronics company.

According to the Israeli Transport and Road Safety Minister Merav Michaeli, “I am proud that Israel became the first country to allow UAVs to operate for the benefit of agriculture, environment, fight against the crime, the people and the economy.”

After the approval of the Elbit’s drone, it will now be able to fly in civilian airspace like other civilian airliners, without remaining restricted to non desegregated airspace.

Reports also indicated that the Hermes Starliner can fly for up to 36 hours at the height of around 7600 m and can carry an added 450 kg of thermal, electro-optical, radar and other payloads.

Further, it will also be able to partake in anti-terror and border security operations, conduct marine rescue and search, secure public events, and in environmental inspection and commercial aviation missions.

The CAA has been leading the manufacturing and design of the ‘Hermes Starliner’, which contained the process of rigorous six-year certification in which extensive ground and flight tests are included.

According to the overseas aeroplane rules, aircraft which is not certified are strictly not allowed in civilian airspace for safety reasons, thereby limiting their operation to non-segregated airspace.
