A Palestinian family named as ‘Salem family’ was forced to be displaced from their own home in which they were accommodating since 1951 – and it is their third generation living in this house.

This property comes under the Israeli settler, NGOs lodged a claim that this property comes under them now. The court ruled this in 2021, and in that family, 11 members, including four children, occupied East Jerusalem and had to leave their house on December 29, 2021, forcefully.

Following protests and clashes between Palestinians and Israeli forces, an Israeli court temporarily halted the forced expulsion on December 23.

The notice of leaving home to the matriarch family got 74-year-old Fatima Salem by a right-wing Israeli activist and Jerusalem city committee member Yonatan Yosef on December 9.

He, along came with the deputy Jerusalem mayor, Arieh King, claimed that he bought this house from the owner of Jewish who had custody of the property before 1948.

The Salem family became refugees in 1948, at the time when approximately 700,000 families were ejected from their homes and land when Israel was founded.

At the time in 1951, the family rented a house under a protected tenancy agreement between the Jordanian Custodian of Enemy Property, which had been installed to handle the property taken from Jews in those areas controlled by Jordan 1948.

According to Fatima, who is the owner of that house and living there since 1951, said, “I was born here and grew up here, I got married here, and I give childbirth to all my kids here. My three sons, their missis and children all living in this house only.”

Now we have no other place to go, and we are not capable enough to rent an apartment. We could end up on the road in the cold and rainy climate.

The stress is unbearable, and we struggle all night and cant able fall asleep, and this makes my health problems worse.

The citizens of Palestine have raised their voices for the Salem family.
