A delegation from Cyprus to spain was led by Nikos Nicolaides, mayor of Limassol municipality. The delegation visited the city of Malaga in Spain. Both sides hold discussions on a memorandum of cooperation between the ports of municipalities of Limassol, Cyprus, and Malaga, Spain.
A statement in this regard was released yesterday by Cyprus authorities. The Cyprus delegation visited under the guidance of Cyprus Ambassador to Spain Eleni Mina.
The president of the Cyprus port authority, Antonio St. Stylianou, also participated in the dialogue.
Discussion was held between the president of Cyprus Ports Authority and the president of Malaga Ports Authority Spain. The discussed topics focused on the prospects of collaboration between the two port authorities of Cyprus and Spain.
The statement issued by seaport authorities explained that the discussion disclosed many commonalities between the two port authorities.
The main emphasis of the discussion also covered topics like the green transition of the economy to make it more sustainable, the digitalisation of ports, and the use of renewable energy sources on seaports of both countries .
Both port authorities also talked about initiatives to mitigate the effects of climate challenges on sea life .
As stated above, commonalities also included that best practices exist currently between both countries . These practices are such that they could be implemented within the framework of border cooperation between both authorities .
Furthermore, issues like connecting ports with a maximum number of states were discussed . Connectivities of ports of both nations and cities will bring a positive change as it will provide for opportunities to traders .
This connectivity should not confined to accessibility alone . These connectivities between ports and cities should also target integrating the cultures of cities and ports .
Enhanced connectivity between ports and cities must be addressed immediately in modern times.
The connectivity efforts must be aimed to include and connect the cities that are far away from the ports.
Another important issue that was discussed includes taking initiative in the direction of sustainable development.
Both sides agreed to deepen mutual technical assistance. This Technical assistance will also be used to evaluate the results of this meeting.
