Jeddah: Saudi Arabia has decided to take part in the eighth International Day of Yoga 100-day countdown campaign. Other 100 countries are going to take part in this campaign, said Saudi Yoga Committee President Nouf Al-Marwaai’.
To celebrate the campaign – also known as Yoga Mahotsav of the International Day of Yoga 2022 (IDY), Al-Marwaai declared the launch of an 81-day yoga awareness program in the Kingdom.
Moreover, the campaign’s virtual opening event will be organized on April 1 ahead of the International Day of Yoga on June 21.
IDY is famous for its health benefits under United Nations resolution 69/131. The international event aims to promote the practice of yoga and its associated health benefits.
This year the theme of the IDY is “Health, Well-being and World Peace.”
This campaign was launched by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) under India’s Ministry of AYUSH; this institution was founded for research, development and education in Ayurveda, yoga, naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and homoeopathy.
According to MDNIY Director Dr Ishwar Basavaraddi, this year’s campaign will go fr 100 days and in 100 cities and in 100 organizations in the lead-up to IDY.
“This campaign will include yoga demonstrations, workshops, and seminars in India and worldwide.
The Kingdom will have a virtual event on April 1 featured with yoga lessons, a class with registered trainer Faisal Al-Awaji, a vinyasa session with Samah Diab, and pranayama and meditation classes with Bhola Shanker of the Himalayan meditation tradition.
According to Al-Marwaai in his opening speech at the virtual event, “We are feeling honoured to be the part of Yoga Mahotsav 2022, as we all are here to celebrate the International Day of Yoga, it is very important to emphasize yoga massage for health, well being and world peace. With today’s challenges worldwide, yoga promotion is needed the most.”
She added that the Kingdom is making significant strides toward combining and integrating the practice of yoga in Saudi society.
Basavaraddi stated that practising yoga is all linked to the human interest and that it can deliver the world from tensions” in a message of love, peace, unity and good intentions.
