Dubai: One of the mysterious cases came in front of which a fiance ended his relationship before getting married. His fiancee went for nose surgery, a “Botched Botox procedure” at a Dubai medical centre that left her with a deformity on her nose.
The woman, whose identity and nationality were not disclosed, told judges at the Dubai Civil Court that she also lost her job following the non-surgical procedure, which took place on November 21, 2020.
Judges were told the doctor infiltrated her nose with Botox and fillers to adjust its shape.
That same day when she came back to the centre complaining of a severe headache and swelling, her Physician advised her to use ice packs to reduce the inflammation and numb the pain.
The woman later came back to the centre again when the pain in her nose was the same and did not decrease and was given two injections for the soreness and prescribed her some creams.
After two weeks, when she went back to the centre and the centre’s surgeon cleaned the area in question after it turned into a wound.
On her way home from the doctor, her nose started bleeding heavily in the taxi. She asked the taxi driver to take her to the Rashid Hospital, the city’s largest government hospital, where she was referred to the emergency unit for treatment.
As per that woman’s statement, she was in depression because her fiance had ended their relationship, and she had to borrow money to cover rent and other living costs after she lost her job.
The woman filed a case against the Physician and the medical centre, aiming Dh400,000 settlement for emotional and physical damages.
Dubai prosecutors guided her to a medical examination by a committee of physicians from the Dubai Health Authority.
In the reports of the committee submitted to the court in which, it is clearly mentioned that the Physician was not familiar with some technical details related to a Botox procedure, including how substances should be dissolved before being injected.
The report also said that tissues in the affected area had died due to the doctor’s error, which developed tissues around the nose area that formed a visible scar.
On December 15, judges declared the centre responsible for allowing the procedure to be performed without ensuring its staff were well trained and qualified.
The court ordered the doctor and the centre to jointly pay the woman Dh50,000 in compensation and 5 percent interest.
They were also ordered to pay all lawful fees.
Judges at the Appeal Court supported the verdict on April 28.
