Dubai: Nearly 12 immigrants miraculously survived after an elevator cabin suddenly fell off from the 10th floor of the building in Kuwait while 12 people were inside the elevator.
As per reports, twelve immigrants were injured, while four others were also inside the cabin and were unharmed.
On Friday, the incident took place inside a commercial building located in the Jleeb Al Shuyoukh area, Farwaniya Governorate.
Kuwaiti authorities launched an investigation into the matter in order to learn about the reasons behind the lift malfunction.
Last month, in April, one Indian youth from Kerala died after getting stuck in an elevator that moved unexpectedly by itself in Mangaf City, Kuwait. Mohammad Shafi, a resident of Chamravattam in Kerala’s Malappuram district, was trapped in a lift and died.
One of the supermarket employees, Shafi, had arrived to deliver goods after breaking his fast on the first day of Ramadan. The fire brigade rushed to the spot and recovered the body.
After opening his fast, Shafi arrived at the building around 8 in the evening with an order for delivery. The goods were taken in a trolley. That was a three-story building which had an older model of the elevator, and it had only one door from the outside.
As the trolly was tangled in the lift, Shafi moved his head out. The elevator was moving upwards this time, and Shafi’s head and body were trapped inside and outside the elevator.
Shafi has been working in Kuwait for a long time, and he last visited India a few months ago.
Volunteers and Malayalee organizations in Kuwait reported that the process of sending the body home is being completed with the assistance of the Indian Embassy.
