In Bahrain: an expat throws his housemate, a woman, from fifth floor

Cairo: An Asian immigrant in Bahrain confessed to having thrown a female housemate to death from their fifth-floor apartment after having a heavy fight between them, as per the reports.

Akhbar Al Khaleej quoted the prosecution chief in the Bahraini capital governorate as saying that security agencies had notified public prosecution that a foreign woman had fatally fallen from a fifth-floor apartment in the city.

According to the police investigation, the report said that women were sharing that fifth-floor apartment with the Asian man and that he had tossed her out of the window following an unspecified row.

Police arrested the suspect and confessed his crime, saying that he had lost his temper as the dispute was sharp and restored to deadly measures. He also re-enacted the crime at its site as part of an investigation.

Police have charged him with deliberate murder and ordered his remand, pending further questioning.

After the incident, a Bahraini lawmaker has urged the government to enforce strict laws that protect women against violence as well as discrimination based on gender.

Faisal Fouladh, a member of the Shura Council, wrote a letter to the Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Mohammad Al-Mutawa, in which he asked the government, “What is the planning to do about these issues?” “Are you going to abolish laws that are biased against women?”

“Intensive measures must be exercised to protect women against violence. Based upon international standards, new laws must be put in place,” he said.

Flash is a member of a group of lawmakers who already had presented a law sought at fighting violence against women.

The draft would be introduced to the Shura Council, the selected upper chamber of the National Assembly, in a few days, he said.

The draft aims to draw up laws and policies that are going to save the political, social and economic discrimination and violence that happened with women. It will also work with them., he explained.

“It would also make an environment in which it is not possible to stop women and transgress against them, and ensure women enjoy all rights and equal and fair opportunities.”
