People can donate now so that they can feed needy people. This is considered a Ramadan food drive; this is possible in UAE and worldwide. People can donate to secure meals for vulnerable communities in 50 countries as part of a massive Ramadan food drive.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister (PM) of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, officially founded the “One Billion Meals” campaign on Saturday, on the first day of the holy month of Ramadan.
In a tweet, one of the Dubai rulers called the campaign “one billion dignified messages from the UAE to the world.”
As per Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid’s tweet, “Ramadan is the month where people kept fast and felt the suffering of 800 million people who sleep hungry every day.”
Individuals and businesses from all over the world can contribute as little as Dh1 ($0.27) to secure one meal for the poor.
The campaign, dubbed the region’s largest food distribution drive, will provide food parcels to low-income families and refugees, resulting in a total of one billion meals.
Arranged by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), the campaign is an evolution of the UAE’s previous “100 Million Meals” launched during Ramadan last year.
It raised more than double its target, securing food parcels, equivalent to 220 million meals, to the disadvantaged in 47 countries.
In partnership with the UN World Food Programme, the Food Banking Regional Network (FBRN), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Establishment (MBRCH), and humanitarian organizations in targeted countries, the donated 220 million meals are still being distributed in the form of food parcels across underserved communities and refugee camps.
With the “One Billion Meals” campaign, distribution continues in 2022 until the remaining 780 million meals are assured.
According to Mohammad Al Gergawi, Secretary-General of MBRGI, the campaign is part of the UAE’s search to enhance the quality of life worldwide, keep humanity and help the suffering in needy communities.
“Innovative humanitarian steps like One Billion Meals strengthen the UAE’s status as an impactful donor to global initiatives to confront humanitarian challenges. The UAE, in line with the directions of its smart leadership, is taking a unique path to promote charitable and humanitarian work and has been able to achieve a qualitative jump in improving relief aid.”
