Cairo: According to the Kuwait customs officials that they had thwarted an attempt to smuggle 14,720 alcohol bottles into the country on the occasion of the Eid Al Fitr celebrations.
According to the Kuwaiti, Customs wrote on Twitter, the haul was seized in a container of household items coming from unspecified countries of Kuwait Al Shuwaikh port.
As per the sources, the seized contraband’s market value is estimated at KD1 million, which represented the foiling of the attempt as a blow to the mafia and dealers in alcohol ahead of the Eid holiday.
The haul was seized after customs officers had doubted the container and employed sophisticated search equipment that emitted signals, prompting officers to examine the shipment’s contents thoroughly, the paper added.
However, in recent months, the Kuwait administration has declared several arrests and hauls in a crackdown on illegal alcohol plants in the country.
The consignment that arrived in the country just before the Eid holidays is about one million dinars worth.
