Long and lengthy lines were reported at Dubai International Airport at the weekend, as a rush of travellers returned to the UAE after the long Eid Al Fitr break.
There was footage that showed hundreds of people waiting in line for taxis in the early hours of Sunday.
There were barriers set up at the arrivals section of a terminal in order to guide or suggest people through the exits as quickly as possible.
According to airport officials, Saturday, May 7, would be the busiest day. Government departments, schools, and some other private sector companies will be going to reopen on Monday.
One of the passengers, Sneha Singh, a marketing director in Dubai, returned from a trip to Croatia and arrived at Terminal 3 on Sunday at 1 am.
She stated, “I have been in Dubai for the past six years and have travelled during every Eid break, but I have never seen the queue for taxis quite as big as that.”
“Like me, many other returning tourists couldn’t believe the scenes that welcomed us in the arrivals hall.
“I must say, though; the airport officials handled the crowds and the situation very well.”
According to Dubai Airports, last week’s statement that it was one of the busiest travel periods over the Eid break and requested travellers to plan their time accordingly.
Furthermore, they stated that more than 1.9 million travellers were expected to fly from Dubai International Airport between April 28 and May 9. The busiest day was scheduled for May 7, when 200,000 people were expected to cross the airport.
On May 9, the northern runway at Dubai International Airport will close for the 45-day refurbishment project.
During this time, many flights that typically fly into the airport will rather operate from Dubai World Central, including those used by Flydubai, Spice Jet, Indigo, Gulf Air and others.
