Afghan police arrest 9 drug dealers

The Afghan Interior Ministry said on Tuesday that police had arrested nine people on charges of drug trafficking and illegal drugs in four states.

“Nine suspected drug dealers were arrested in the provinces of Kabul, Kunduz, Sar-e Pol and Nimroz during the past two days,” the ministry added.

According to the ministry, the suspects have been transferred to the competent authorities for examination and follow-up of possible legal measures.

Afghanistan’s Taliban-led caretaker government has vowed to fight poppy cultivation and the opium trade in the war-torn country.

Reports say that there are about 3 million drug addicts in Afghanistan.
