Rescue teams in northern Italy retrieved the 10th body on Thursday and said they were looking for another one after a deadly avalanche caused by melting snow.
Trento provincial chief Maurizio Fogatti announced that Alpine rescue crews, using dogs and drones, had retrieved the remains from the wreckage of Sunday’s avalanche in the Marmolada glacier, east of Bolzano.
So far, only 6 of the 10 bodies have been identified.
Crew members also found body parts, evidence of the avalanche’s power and deadly effect on hikers.
A huge chunk of the frozen Marmolada broke off on Sunday, sending a deluge of ice, rocks and debris accelerating downward.
Experts have suggested that rising temperatures may have contributed to the collapse, because the glacier is melting faster than usual due to a heat wave, destabilizing it.
