Mexico: Ten miners are stuck at the bottom of a collapsing coal mine in northeastern Mexico, the government said, saying it was using the necessary means to rescue them.

The Mexican Ministry of Security said that “three workers were rescued … and taken to hospital,” according to the Ministry of Security, which indicated that ten other workers were still inside the mine.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador first spoke of nine miners stranded after a coal mine collapsed and sank.

“We hope to find them safe,” he said, noting that rescue teams had arrived at the site.

The Ministry of Security confirmed that “the government employs all necessary means to carry out search and rescue operations.”

The accident occurred 1,130 km north of Mexico City in the town of Sabinas, Coahuila state, the main coal-mining region of Mexico.

Relatives of the miners gathered near the mine.

One woman said that “two of my sons” work in the mines.

She added, crying, that one of them managed to get out of the mine.

The local authorities indicated that the mine started operating in January without any problems reported.

In June 2021, seven miners were killed in the collapse of another coal mine in the same state.

The most serious accident occurred in this region in 2006 when a gas explosion in a mine killed 65 people.
