Opening a school for displaced and establishing two others in Yemen with Kuwaiti funding

Kuwait: The Kuwaiti International Mercy Society inaugurated a model school for the displaced in the Yemeni governorate of Ma'rib and inaugurated work in two other schools in the Hadhramaut and Lahj governorates, benefiting 1,500 students as part of the "Kuwait by your side" campaign that has been going on for eight years.

The head of the Communication Foundation for Human Development, which implemented the project, Raed Ibrahim, said in a statement to the media that the “Idris 1” school, which consists of 15 classrooms and its administrative and service annexes, was opened in Al-Kharashi camp for the displaced in Al-Wadi District, Ma’rib Governorate.

He added that during the past few days, the foundation stone was laid for the construction of two other schools with the same name in Hadhramaut and Lahj governorates, with the aim of providing a suitable learning environment for more than 1,500 students in the three schools, with an average of 500 students in each.


 

 


He explained that the school project, funded by Kuwaiti philanthropists under the supervision of the International Mercy Society, includes 15 classrooms in each of them in addition to its service and administrative annexes, noting that these schools come as an extension of the “Idris” mobile school “the educational cart” where the project was expanded by creating temporary schools in the form of classrooms. He pointed out that the project targets displaced children from the first to the ninth grade in the displacement camps in the three governorates, in addition to providing them with school bags, school supplies and uniforms, which contributes to providing an appropriate educational environment for their education.

He pointed out that the project is implemented in coordination and supervision with the offices of the Ministries of Education and Social Affairs and Labor and the Executive Unit for the Management of IDP camps in the three governorates with the aim of supporting the efforts of the competent government agencies and enhancing their capabilities in providing education to children deprived of it due to the circumstances and conditions of displacement.

He expressed appreciation and gratitude to all the supporters in the State of Kuwait through the “Global Mercy” who took the initiative to support this project to bring joy to the hearts of children in displacement camps and to lift them out of the clutches of illiteracy facing them due to the lack of stability and services.

For his part, the Undersecretary of Ma’rib Governorate, Muhammad Al-Mawadi, praised in a press statement Kuwaiti’s continuous efforts to support the infrastructure in the health and education sectors and the successive relief interventions in support of the displaced, expressing his thanks and appreciation to the Emir, the government and the people of Kuwait and the benefactors through the International Mercy Society for this influential giving.

He pointed out that the opening of the “Idris” school in the “Al-Kharashi” camp is another fruit of Kuwaiti giving, which will open a new horizon for the displaced students who have dropped out of education as a result of circumstances that everyone knows.
