Kuwait ends services for expatriates in municipality

Kuwait: The Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology in Kuwait, Dr Rana Al-Faris, announced the Kuwaitization plan, empowering national cadres and not renewing contracts for non-Kuwaiti employees.

According to the Tribunal Community, the Minister of Municipality, Dr Rana Al-Fares, has a 3-phase time plan for Kuwaiti jobs in the municipality. The first phase begins with the termination of contracts of 33 percent of non-Kuwaitis with a warning period, starting from next September 1, followed by the second stage by ending 33 percent on February 1, 2023, provided that the third stage grants a Warning period from July 1, 2023, for the remaining number of employees.

And she called Al-Fares in a letter addressed to the Director General of the Municipality, Eng. Ahmed Al-Manfouhi to provide it with lists of the names of non-Kuwaiti employees in preparation for taking the necessary legal measures to end their services within one week.

The rider excluded the following categories:

• The non-Kuwaiti employee of a Kuwaiti mother
• Children of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries
• Undetermined permanent residents, provided that they are registered with the Central Apparatus for Illegal Residents’ Status
• Service staff
• 50 percent of funeral directors’ staff

Al-Fares stressed the suspension of all procedures for the appointment of non-Kuwaitis, and the suspension of all transfers of non-Kuwaiti workers between departments and sectors.
