Egypt: The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology Egypt has recently opened the applications for the second round of the “National Smart Green Initiative” in association with the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development from April 1 till the end of May 2023.
As per the updates, the National Smart Green Initiative aims to create a state of the community and stimulate movement within all governorates to emphasize the importance of green and smart projects in various aspects of life, comes in the context of the state’s interest in climate change issues, aimed at empowering the private sector, youth and women.
In addition, the initiative comes in light of state efforts to achieve sustainable development goals and digital transformation, as well as the national strategy for climate change in 2050.
The reports have stated that during the first round of the initiative, ministries and different sectors cooperated, resulting in several successes in creating the first database of smart green projects at the provincial level.
Furthermore, during the first phase of the initiative, more than 6,000 projects were submitted to be a part of it, as well as the interest of the provinces in raising awareness of climate issues. Winning projects were presented in the first session at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Sharm El Sheikh.
The initiative targets projects that meet environmental sustainability standards that contribute to various aspects such as,
– Reducing carbon emissions and pollution
– Conserving natural resources,
– Projects that promote energy efficiency and resources
– Projects that address solutions to food security, water security, biodiversity and ecosystem services, which help adapt to climate change.
Moreover, the role of the Ministry of Communications in the initiative is to establish the criteria for choosing smart projects and to participate in awareness seminars in all governorates of Egypt to raise the awareness of investors and entrepreneurs of smart tasks.
The CIT Ministry also focuses on the goals and criteria required to be available in nominated projects to participate in the initiative, as well as to define the industry among the youth of the IT community and explain its categories and conditions during Egypt’s Digital Creativity Centres.
The youth will also get to coordinate with global companies in the field of communication and information technology to sponsor winning projects, both financially and technically, and participate in the Project Arbitration Committee at the level of the governorates of the Republic.
