Iraq: The Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces – Mohammed Shia Al Sudani, has recently led the meeting of the Higher Committee for Armaments on Sunday, July 9th, 2023.
The meeting was held in the presence of a number of other government officials and ministers and aimed at enhancing the alignment of armed national armed forces with the nation’s current challenges.
According to recent information, the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Media Office has taken to its official social media handle and extended the updates regarding the recently held meeting. The shared update noted that “Prime Minister, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mr Mohammed S. Al-Sudani, chaired today the first meeting of the Higher Committee for Armaments”.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al Sudani deliberated on formulating a general policy to equip the armed forces, ensuring its alignment with the country’s current challenges.
They also addressed the specific requirements of each security and military branch regarding weapons and ammunition, emphasizing the optimal utilization of the capabilities offered by the Défense Industries Commission.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces issued directives to establish collaborative plans between the Défense Industries Commission and the national security agencies to address the military demand for weapons and equipment.
Furthermore, Prime Minister also emphasized the significance of a comprehensive understanding of the Defense Industries Commission’s capabilities. It was stressed that all security agencies should be informed about the available resources and potential capabilities.
In his remarks, he further instructed the security agencies to communicate their needs to the Défense Industries Commission, enabling the Commission to formulate production plans based on those needs.
Additionally, the ministries and security agencies were urged to fulfil their requirements by directly engaging in contracts with the National Défense Industries Commission.
The meeting also included deliberations on establishing new camps for the various security branches. Considering this, mandated the formation of a joint committee consisting of relevant ministries and authorities. This committee’s primary task will be identifying suitable land outside urban areas to construct these camps.
