The United Arab Emirates (UAE) issued a weather alert as thick fog enveloped various parts of the country on Tuesday morning, prompting concerns about reduced visibility on the roads.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued a weekly weather bulletin warning that horizontal visibility in some areas “could drop even further at times,” with more unsettled conditions anticipated throughout the week.

The dense fog, which blanketed parts of the UAE at midnight, led to an advisory from Abu Dhabi Police on social media, urging drivers to exercise caution due to the reduced visibility during the foggy conditions.

Motorists were specifically reminded to adhere to variable speed limits displayed on electronic road signs, with speed limits typically reduced to 80 kph in the capital during episodes of fog to enhance road safety.

According to the NCM, the fog is expected to dissipate by 10 am, providing some relief to commuters. However, the persistent foggy conditions underscore the need for continued vigilance on the roads.

The weather forecast for the day suggests partly cloudy conditions, with temperatures remaining in the high 20s.

Humidity is expected to rise in the evening, adding to the atmospheric conditions. Light to moderate wind speeds are also anticipated, reaching up to 40 kph by the coast and 30 kph in the mountains and internal areas.

As residents prepare for New Year celebrations over the weekend, the NCM predicts that the cloudy weather will persist throughout the week. Wednesday is expected to see temperatures ranging from the mid to late 20s, with lows of 17°C.

The end of the week may bring cooler night-time weather, with temperatures dipping to as low as 14°C in Dubai and 11°C in the mountainous regions.

Mariners and sea enthusiasts are advised to exercise caution as the sea in the Arabian Gulf is forecasted to be rough for the majority of the week.

This precautionary measure aligns with the UAE’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents and visitors, especially during adverse weather conditions.

In conclusion, the UAE’s weather alert serves as a timely reminder for residents and travellers to stay informed about changing weather conditions, adhere to safety guidelines, and exercise caution on the roads.

As the nation looks forward to ringing in the New Year, staying weather-aware will contribute to a safe and enjoyable celebration for all.
