Philip J Pierre attends eighth CELAC summit

Saint Lucia: Philip J Pierre, the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, after addressing the issues of high focus for national interest now managed to attend the eighth Summit of the Community of Latin America and Caribbean States commonly called CELAC for the Heads of State and Government.

Prime Minister Philip J Pierre before the summit of CELAC was gone to attend the 46th Regular meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community, also called CARICOM which started on 25 February.

From the CARICOM summit, which concluded on 28 February, PM Philip J Pierre came back early before it ended due to some urgent issues in Saint Lucia that needed to be focused on, including national security, crime, and others. Due to this, it was assumed that PM Pierre would not be able to attend the eighth CELAC summit.

The eighth CELAC summit took place on Friday, 1 March which was organised this time by the island nation of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines which was joined by the leaders of the member nations.

Philip J Pierre joined the other leaders of the member states for the one-day meeting which revolved around the topics of the collaborative approach towards the issues of mutual interests.

The intention of the CELAC summit is to provide a platform for the nations of the Caribbean region and nations of Latin America at the governmental level. The platform is where the leaders of the member state can come together and discuss the issue and their visions for the mutual collaboration and integration.

At the CELAC summit, leaders discuss about the geo-political events, social and cultural integration, and the ideas that could help in the betterment of the citizens of the nations in the region.

It is said that this year also the leaders had discussions about the topics of food security, climate change, and healthcare kind of issues with other necessary topics about the growth and prosperity.

PM Philip J Pierre, went to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to participate in the CELAC summit with the delegation of diplomats. Alva Baptiste, the Minister for External Affairs, International Trade, and Civil Aviation was also in the delegation with the prime minister with other members of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
