Saint Lucia: Ernest Hilaire, the minister for tourism and investment of Saint Lucia, mentioned about the need in the nation to build infrastructure to fulfil and promote the needs of film making through a dedicated Film Commission establishment. The vision of the minister is around Saint Lucia being one of the choices of the filmmakers in the global film industry.
In his statement, the reason behind the need for a dedicated Film Commission is to serve the needs of the production houses who want to shoot their films on the island. Saint Lucia for a long time been a destination for movies due to its beauty and nature.
Minister Ernest Hilaire, said in his statement that film making is stayed crucial part of investment and tourism in Saint Lucia but currently the nation is observing some logistic issues that are not able to fulfil the necessities of film productions.
Ernest Hilaire mentioned, “There was a proposal for a movie to be shot in Saint Lucia, but what they were asking for, we really could not provide. For example, they wanted three hundred rooms for six weeks in one hotel, and we really could not have provided it.”
This is where Minister Ernest Hilaire looks at the need for the film commission of Saint Lucia which will help to manage the film making infrastructure in the nation. The commission will also manage the marketing of Saint Lucia to promote it as the destination for film production more frequently.
Minister said, “It is something that we need to get going because, for you to promote the use of Saint Lucia as a location, you need to have the capacity.”
