Dominica: Denise Charles Pemberton, the minister of tourism for Dominica, announced about the plans of the national government to soon launch a new airline of the country during her appearance in the Routes America event of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation held in Colombia.
Minister Denise Charles Pemberton mentioned in her statement that the intention to launch a new airline in Dominica is to increase the connectivity of the island nation in the Caribbean region so that more tourists can visit to the country.
The government of Dominica taken the decision while observing the challenges faced by the aviation sector currently. The introduction of the new airlines to serve the Caribbean region will solve those problem and also increase the expected tourism on the island.
Minister Denise said in her words that the new airline will strengthener the sector and work as a support for the current system while the nation will stay in strong tie ups with airlines those are currently managing their services for Dominica while holding the partnerships.
Minister Denise said, “As you know, inter regional connectivity is a major challenge and we have seen a downswing in the number of visitors coming from respective islands nearby.”
Tourism minister added, “Anyhow, we have strengthened our partnership with inter Caribbean airlines and then soon we are going to launch a new airline in Dominica, that will be known as Sunrise Airways.”
The main focus for the new airline connecting Dominica, that is highlighted by Minister Denise Charles Pemberton, is to bring the visitors from the island nation that are part of the French Caribbean region. The island nation of Dominica contain strong interest towards the French Caribbean for growth of their tourism sector.
Denise Charles said about the vision of the island nation, “One of our markets of key focus is the French islands West Indies region, Martinique and Guadeloupe. A lot of people from this region visit Dominica and as you know they come by ferry, which takes a long time but by air its only fifteen minutes.”
She added, “A lot of the travellers exited and are looking for that connectivity, so that is reason we are looking to increase our partnership from Martinique and Guadeloupe to Dominica as well as St Maarten. We have opportunities to grow.”
