Dominica marked support to Morocco in Western Sahara dispute

Dominica: The Foreign Minister for the Commonwealth of Dominica, Vince Henderson, highlighted the support of the island nation to Morocco towards their territorial integrity and sovereignty. The statement was passed during the official visit of the minister to Rabat for a bilateral meeting, representing the government and the people of Dominica.

The statement was given by Minister Vince Henderson following the meeting in the capital of Morocco. In the meeting, both nations focused on mutual cooperation towards several issues that are beneficial for both sides with its people on regional and geo-political platforms.

Representatives of Dominica and Morocco came out for the media appearance after the meeting where they shared some words for the public. The prime focus of the discussion was presented to be South-South Cooperation under the vision of the King of Morocco, Mohammed VI.

The foreign ministers of both nations shared their words regarding multiple issues and objectives where they are already cooperating or looking for cooperation in the future. Among the talks related to various sectors like education, economy, environment, agriculture, and many others they also mentioned about the issue of the Western Sahara.

The foreign minister of Dominica expressed uncompromised support to Morocco by the government of the nation. The long standing diplomatic tie-up between both nations supported the sovereignty of each other as one of the primary pillars of the relationship, where the Dominican government always extended its voice from the side of Morroco in the conflict of Western Sahara.

The Western Sahara is a region, which is a western part of the great Sahara desert sharing a stretch of the western coast of Africa. The region is disputably shared between the African nations of Morocco and Mauritania while also sharing a small border with Algeria.

The dispute has been going on for a long time now since the colonial power of Spain left the land. The land is claimed by Mauritania along with Morocco. There are also some local forces exists who are looking for the separation of the Western Sahara region and rule it as a new nation.

In the bilateral meeting, the representatives of Dominica and Morocco released a joint statement in which the minister of the island nation expressed support of the government to the Moroccan Autonomy Plan and marked it as the only credible, serious, and realistic solution.

He also added that the process of the United Nations can help to achieve a practical solution to the dispute which can only be a realistic approach. Dominica is one of the nations that strongly supported the nation of Morocco openly in the matter. Many neighbouring nations in the Caribbean region also supported Morocco in the Western Sahara dispute.
