The Prime Minister emphasised that these houses are a major source of employment and are providing jobs to the construction workers of the St. Kitts and Nevis.

As per the sources, the National Housing Corporation (NHC) was incorporated back in 1996, after being renamed from the Central Housing Authority (CHA). NHC was created under an Act of Parliament in 1997 for the purposes of “adding and improving” the existing supply of houses, in order to enhance the usefulness of the funds of the Corporation by promoting greater efficiency in the housing sector.

From the onset, the consultations for the preparation of affordable houses included strategies to understand the challenges better. This is an opportunity for developing affordable housing and to obtain action plans on how the communities can develop these houses in the communities.

The major component of the strategy were specific recommendations on public housing resources that might be available to help the citizens in gaining these affordable houses.

Over the years, NHC has always strived and worked to achieve its Mission Statement. NHC has delivered over 5000 lots and distributed more than 2000 homes throughout the island under several different projects.
