In a touching display of community support, the Israel Police’s “Wish Patrol” hosted Noar Biton, 9, and her brother Rotem, 7, the children of fallen soldier Sgt. Yakir Biton, for a memorable day in Jerusalem on Thursday.

The event aimed to provide the siblings with a positive police experience, showcasing the dedication of law enforcement in Israel to strengthen ties with the community.

The “Wish Patrol,” established in recent years, is a special initiative that grants children, especially those facing difficult circumstances, an opportunity to engage with police officers and learn about various aspects of their work. The day was filled with excitement and discovery, tailored specifically for Noar and Rotem.

Upon arrival, the siblings were presented with custom police uniforms featuring their names, allowing them to immerse themselves fully in the experience.

Their first stop was at the animal unit, where they met the mounted officers and their horses. The children had the unique chance to feed the horses and even ride them, creating cherished memories that are sure to last a lifetime.

Following their visit to the animal unit, the Biton siblings proceeded to the Jerusalem Border Police’s canine unit. There, they witnessed the impressive detection skills of trained police dogs, learning about their vital role in ensuring public safety alongside their human counterparts.

The day’s activities continued with a visit to the bomb disposal unit of the Jerusalem District, where Noar and Rotem met expert bomb disposal officers.

They were introduced to a police robot designed to handle suspicious objects and potentially dangerous explosive devices. The demonstration captivated the young attendees, further enhancing their understanding of the diverse responsibilities of police work.

In need of a refreshment break, the children enjoyed some ice cream before heading to the Oz Station of the Kedem District, which serves their family’s community. As they approached the police station, the Biton siblings were warmly welcomed by officers and commanders who greeted them with enthusiastic applause.

The culmination of the day included a special ceremony where Noar and Rotem were awarded honorary ranks and small gifts from the “Wish Patrol” team. A communal lunch followed, allowing the children to bond further with the officers who had dedicated their time to making the day special.

Reflecting on the event, Senior Sergeant Barak Saar expressed the collective joy felt by the officers of the Jerusalem District. “We were happy to host Noar and Rotem and to bring even a little happiness to their faces,” he said.

Saar emphasized that alongside their primary responsibilities of maintaining public safety and addressing crime, the officers are committed to fostering community relationships throughout the year.

“This special activity touches us no less than it does the children themselves. It was very moving to see their curiosity and the smiles on their faces throughout the day,” he added.

The “Wish Patrol” initiative not only provides moments of joy for children like Noar and Rotem but also reinforces the bonds between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
