St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew granted the pensions to the Government Auxiliary Employees (GAEs). He said on Thursday, July 25, 2024 justice came to the GAEs who served for years and had been denied their pensions.
According PM Drew, July 25, 2024 was marked as a historic milestone for the Government Auxiliary Employees as he led the administration, commenced by the distribution of pension payments. The moment symbolised the commitment of the Cabinet and the Government to honour the dedicated service of the GAEs.
Hard work done by employees has not gone unnoticed and their future is secure. Prime Minister Drew emphasised that together they continue to build a proud and strong St. Kitts and Nevis.
PM Drew explained that, the St. Kitts and Nevis Labor Party Administration fulfills its solemn promise to our government auxiliary employees or the GAEs. Now, they are writing the wrongs that were written in the past and are honoring the commitment and dedication of those who have tirelessly served our nation without the assurance of a secure future.
Considering this, PM Drew stated that it was his commitment to make sure that this comes to reality. He praised the GAEs and said that they are the backbone of the public services. You are the traffic wardens, that ensure the safety for the children on their way to school.
Drew mentioned that their work is as vital as any other worker in the civil service. Expressing his concern, he said that the two-third what they deserved was denied. It was not just a financial cut but was a blow to their dignity and recognition as a worker in St. Kitts and Nevis.
Prime Minister acclaimed that, they reaffirmed the commitment and presented his gratitude to the administration of the past for bringing the framework forward. He mentioned that today they rectify the travesty as they restore the dignity of the GAEs and honor the hard work and dedication towards the nation.
PM Drew believes that St. Kitts and Nevis Labor Party Administration has always supported and empowered the working class. Moreover, its GAEs commission to extend the pension coverage as the employees ensure that future of the people is secure.
Notably, the GAEs received an accumulation of seven cheques but is a worker passes away before reaching the age of 62 and meets the minimum requirements, their beneficiary will be received as one year’s pension.
Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis further added that when it comes to importance, there is no distinction and that is why the decision to put this all in place was made, by ensuring that the employees get what they actually deserve, based on the principles on which the government considered it.
