St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew led the brief ceremony at the JNF General Hospital, on October 08, 2024. The St. Christopher and Nevis Social Security Board, through its Corporate Social Responsibility programme presented two colonoscopes and two esophagogastroduodenoscopes (EGD) to the hospital.
The contribution enhanced the medical services that will be available to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis. The donation included two endoscope towers, an endoscope storage cabinet with UV light sterilization and a mechanical endoscope washer.
The equipment will allow for colon cancer screening and for diagnostic investigation of rectal and oral bleeding, abdominal pain and other ailments.
Considering this, PM Drew extended his gratitude towards the Social Security Board for this intervention which complements the efforts put by the government to improve healthcare delivery in the St. Kitts and Nevis and the overall well-being of the citizens.
Dr. Mark Grant, who is a national living in the Diaspora with international training in Endoscopy, said that the JNF General Hospital staff will be trained in the proper usage and care of these valuable pieces of medical equipment.
He added that they have to make sure that the equipment are managed appropriately. He expressed that it can’t be like past systems where anybody takes care of it because when it being taken care of, it means that no one is taking care of it. Considering this, now they are trying to get specific nursing management to address the system around it.

Ceremony, at the JNF General Hospital was attended by the Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Social Security – Dr. Terrance Drew, Director and CEO of the Social Security Board – Christopher Louard, Director of Health Institutions – Dr. Jenson Morton, Medical Chief of Staff – Dr. Daveen Wilkin.
Director of Institutonal-Based Nursing Services – Sandra Lestrade-Caines, Operation Manager at JNF – Stacey Battice, Chief of Surgery at JNF General Hospital – Dr. Joylette Woodley-Fassale, Consultant General Surgeon and Subspecialist in Endoscopy – Dr. Mark Grant and the staff of the Operating Theatre and Outpatients Department and other members of the Social Security Board, were also present there.
