Dominica: Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit extended his Christmas greetings to the people of the Commonwealth of Dominica.
PM Skerrit shared a Christmas greeting post on his social media Page and expressed that as they celebrate this joyous season, he extends his warmest wishes to the people of Dominica and their families.
He further added his festival blessings and said that may this Christmas bring peace, love and happiness to their home and may the coming New Year be filled with hope, health and prosperity.
The wishes were also extended from Prime Minister Skerrit’s family to the residents and quoted, “From my family to yours, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!”
Along with this, President of Dominica – Sylvanie Burton also extended her greetings for the festival of Christmas and enlightened the residents about significance of celebrating the festival. The President said that it is a festival of lights and happiness that brings joy to everybody’s life along with the blessings.
President Burton highlighted that the Christmas is celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ and people should celebrate it with so much joy and enthusiasm. It is a great day to spend time with your family, friends and close ones.
Notably, the Government of Dominica has gifted sixty new homes as a Christmas gift to beneficiaries under the Housing Recovery Programme (HRP) and the 11th EDF (European Development Fund) Programme.
The official handover ceremony was observed at the State House Conference Center on Thursday, Dec 19, 2024. However, fifty-four homes were constructed with loans and funding from the world Bank that delivered several homes under the HRP to 285.
Moreover, six homes were built through funding from the EDF with counterpart funding received from the Government of Dominica. Those were handed over to the residents of the Kalinago Territory and increased the total of the programme to 42.
Considering this, Minister for Housing and Urban Development – Melissa Poponne-Skerrit lauded the efforts made by the Government to provide safety, security and comfort to the families living in Dominica.
According to Melissa Skerrit the Government of Dominica is committed to improve the living standards of the residents of Dominica and this initiative is the part of that great cause.
