Dominica: Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit visited the Dominica Cable Car Project site, situated in the Rosseau Valley. The objective of the visit was to review the progress of the construction work.
PM Skerrit went to project site with the aim of inspecting the work of the administration in the valley. The team is keeping a strong vigilance over the details of the progress of the Dominica Cable Car work.
Project Manager – Randall Gliege mentioned that Dominica Cable Car project, currently has more than 290 employees working on the site, considering mostly from the Dominica region. The employees belong to Rosseau Valley and Rosseau Central. Some of the workers belong to Portsmouth region and rest from other different regions. The teams shared that the project has given employment opportunities to several residents of the country.
Gliege added that the project is developing at a satisfactory pace and anticipates the completion of the Cable Car by the end of the year 2025. While speaking, the project manager also enlightened the media that the project is almost 60% complete, and the construction for the cable car project has been in work for the last three years. He also claimed that they are underway on the development of the project.
Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit learned about the plan of the team for the maintenance of the project, as the manager shared that they would be conducting quality checks on the cable car regularly.
Manager Randall Gliege noted that the Dominica Cable Car workers team is working on the tower foundations and foundations for the top and bottom stations, which are almost complete, and they are working on building both the structure. The next step of the project is to assemble the tower components with the help of experts coming from ropeway manufacturers.
Furthermore, the mechanical and machinery work for the project will begin in the month of February, and PM Roosevelt Skerrit was delighted to be on the trip and spoke to the media noting the employment aspect.
PM Skerrit said that these experiences will help them in securing more permanent employment after the construction of the project is concluded. He stated further that the project will help in creating more opportunities for the travellers who want to experience the Rosseau Valley, the boiling lake and the tour guides.
Prime Minister proudly declared that the tour guides can do their job sitting in the cable car like they do it by walking.
He further mentioned that the project can change the tourism industry of the country positively. Similarly, the Cabrits Marina Project in Portsmouth work is under construction and they reflected on the overall impact of the projects on the economy of Dominica.
The Prime Minister of Dominica was accompanied by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development – Melissa Skerrit and the official government delegates at the site visit.
