Manama, Bahrain – In a historic milestone for the Kingdom of Bahrain, the National Space Science Agency (NSSA) has successfully launched Al Munther, the country’s first domestically designed and built satellite.

The nanosatellite was deployed aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket as part of the Transporter-13 mission from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, USA, on Saturday, March 15.

The successful launch and deployment of Al Munther mark a significant step in Bahrain’s ambitions to establish itself as a regional leader in space technology and innovation.

The satellite was placed in a designated orbit at an altitude of 550 km above sea level, where it will undergo a series of tests before entering full operational status.

A Technological Breakthrough for Bahrain

The Al Munther satellite is equipped with cutting-edge payloads that highlight Bahrain’s advancements in space technology.

Among its features is a medium-resolution space camera (20 meters per pixel) designed to capture high-quality images of Bahrain and its territorial waters. This capability is expected to contribute to environmental monitoring, urban planning, and disaster response.

In a groundbreaking development, Al Munther also incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) technology capable of real-time image analysis, making it the first nanosatellite in the region to include such advanced AI capabilities.

Additionally, a cybersecurity payload has been installed, featuring encryption technologies to protect the satellite’s data from unauthorized access and cyber threats.

One of the most unique features of Al Munther is its radio broadcast payload, which will transmit the Bahraini national anthem and a special message from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

These transmissions, sent via digital signals, can be received by amateur radio operators and space enthusiasts worldwide, further promoting Bahrain’s achievements in space exploration.

The Al Munther project represents a major milestone for Bahrain’s young space program and has provided valuable hands-on experience for a team of Bahraini engineers.

The development process spanned multiple stages, including mission concept design, software development, system integration, and rigorous environmental testing.

Dr. Mohamed Al Aseeri, CEO of the NSSA, hailed the launch as a “historic moment for Bahrain,” emphasizing the importance of space exploration in driving technological progress and national development.
