Dominica: To enhance its international air networks Dominica has signed an initial Air Services Agreement and Memorandum of Understanding with Qatar that laid the groundwork for strengthened bilateral aviation ties between both the nations.
Reportedly, the MOU was signed on Monday, April 14, 2025 during the first day of bilateral discussions of ICAO Facilitation Conference (FALC 2025) held in Doha, Qatar. The agreement marked the beginning of cooperation between both countries, considering all aspects of civil aviation development that paves the way for improved air connectivity. It has built capacity and expanded opportunities within the aviation and tourism sectors.
At the conference held in Doha, Minister for Tourism – Denise Charles-Pemberton represented Dominica. A dedicated team focused on advancing strategic international partnerships. Minister Denise addressed the members present at the conference which is being held under the theme – ‘Facilitating the Future of Air Transport’.
Tourism Minister Denise Charles outlined the bold vision of Dominica to become the World’s First Climate-Resilient Nation and a World-Class Sustainable Tourism Destination.
Moreover, she also reaffirmed the commitment to working with ICAO to strengthen Dominica’s aviation sector.
Also, a live streaming was done of the Qatar conference, which was attended by Dominica’s Minister for Tourism, International Transport, and Maritime Initiatives – Denise Charles and President of Qatar’s Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) – Mohammed Faleh Al Hajri who formalised the agreement.
As per the officials, the pact permits unlimited passengers and cargo flights that are operated by designated carriers from both the countries, including complete transportation rights.
Considering this major initiative QCAA stated that, signing of MOU, is a major turn, as it represents a significant and positive step towards strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of civil aviation. QCAA mentioned that it supports both countries who have shared their vision for the development and enhancement of air transport services and reflects their ongoing commitment to improve connectivity.
The agreement marks continuous efforts of Dominica to deepen global aviation partnerships as part of its broader tourism and transportation strategy. While this will also offer opportunities to tap into Qatar’s growing status as an international logistics and travel hub.
Furthermore, the discussions were followed by exploring common areas of interest in aviation development, with both parties expressing interest in future collaborations that will serve the strategic interests of both Dominica and Qatar.
