Commonwealth of Dominica has decided to curb the long-standing issue of land titling of state funded homes. The government has initiated a plan to resolve the issue by pacing up the title distribution for beneficiaries.
To which, Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development – Melissa Poponne-Skerrit stated that the recent appointment of State Attorney Tenneh Barrock-Esprit with the Ministry of Housing, Lands and Urban Development affirmed the fast-track processing of titles for all government-built homes across Dominica.
A per Minister Melissa Skerrit, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has announced a move to accelerate the processing of titles for recipients of government housing. During the parliamentary session held on Monday, the Housing Minister said that the Ministry will appoint a full-time state attorney, who will particularly handle the task of issuing the titles.
Minister Poponne-Skerrit further revealed that the cabinet has recently approved the hiring of a full-time state attorney, and she will be stationed in the Ministry of Housing with only one job to do. She mentioned that her sole purpose will be to process all the land titles for the government-built homes.
According to Minister Melissa Skerrit this is a huge deal to tackle, as for years, the issue of titles of government-built homes has remained a hot topic in Dominica.
Melissa Poponne-Skerrit noted that the Government is concentrating majorly on delivering safe and secure homes, targeting more than 2000 beneficiaries, also ensuring stability and relief for the ones who were displaced by recent disasters, occurred in Dominica.
She said that she is proud to have found a solution and is moving the title process forward, in a faster and more efficient way. Melissa marked that they are unlocking the real value for the people, and this is what progress looks like.
She further added that they have made promises to the people and they are delivering on the promises. She highlighted that they are not just giving homes, they are giving power to the people. They are giving independence to the people and are giving them a future.
The Minister of Housing gave her statement during the debate on a credit facility from the International Development Association (IDA), which will finance the first phase of the relocation of residents from Petite Soufriere, San Sauveur and Good Hope to Castle Bruce, also from Campbell to Warner.
