Dominica: Prime Minister Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit met with Charge d’Affaires of the United States Embassy to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean – Karin Sullivan, on Tuesday, May 20, 2025. The meeting held involved discussions that were majorly focused on disaster management for the coming Hurricane season in the nation.
PM Skerrit described that the meeting was fruitful, and it was a great pleasure to meet Karin Sullivan. During her visit to Dominica, Sullivan participated in official handover ceremonies of the US Southern Command that were supported by Emergency Operations Centre Annex.
Reportedly, the ceremonies were held at the Office of Disaster Management in Jimmit and the Satellite Emergency Operations Centre and Warehouse in Portsmouth. Mrs. Sullivan formally made an announcement regarding the funding of a new US $2 million fire and ambulance service station in La Plaine.
Furthermore, the Minister for National Security and Legal Affairs – Rayburn Blackmoore was also a part of the meeting. Sullivan was accompanied by the Country Officer – J. Brett Hernandez, along with other officials from the U.S. Embassy, situated in Bridgetown.
As per the statement made by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, the nature isle, Dominica is looking forward to continued collaboration with the United States in areas of disaster preparedness as well as the national security.
Considering the long-built relationship between Dominica and United States, both the nations are keen to maintain a positive and strong bilateral ties. The nations are mainly focusing on developmental support, disaster preparedness, education and regional security of Dominica and the United States.
The US have always encouraged Dominica and its federation for such great initiatives. It also supports Dominica’s economic base and will raise the standard of living for its people. US aid is directed mainly through multilateral institutions such as the World Bank and the Caribbean Development Bank.
Dominica does not have any physical embassy, yet the two nations maintain their relations through the US Embassy in Bridgetown, Barbados that also serves as an Embassy for the entire Eastern Caribbean.
