Baghdad: As per the security source, a total of three Iraqi soldiers and one civilian were killed in a roadside bomb blast in Iraq’s western region of Anbar.
The incident took place on February 9, Wednesday, in the morning when a roadside bomb exploded near a vehicle carrying soldiers on a highway near the town of Rutba, nearly 390 km west of Iraqi capital Baghdad, said Lt. Col. Sabham Jassim from the Iraqi Army.
Due to the blast, one vehicle was destroyed and killed three soldiers and one of the civilians who was driver by occupation. The security forces have also launched an investigation into the incident.
However, the security situation in Iraq has been improving with each passing day and especially since the Iraqi forces beat the Islamic State (IS) in 2017. However, IS remains have since melted into urban centres, deserts and rugged areas, carrying out frequent guerilla attacks against security forces and civilians.
The number of terrorist attacks in Iraq dropped tremendously in recent years. In 2019, around 540 terrorist attacks were recorded in Iraq. By comparison, about 6,608 attacks happened in 2006.
Iraq was the country with the fourth-most terrorist attacks in 2019 and the eight-most fatalities due to terrorism worldwide. Six hundred forty-four people died due to terrorist attacks in Iraq in 2019.
UN Security Council condemns Iraq terror attack, provokes all nations to help seek justice. At least 11 Iraqi soldiers were shot dead in their sleep on January 21 on Friday by suspected Daesh gunmen. It happened in the Al-Azim district, a mountainous area more than 70 miles north of Baghdad’s capital.
